An awesome and mind blowing experience for all of us!
We entered one of the biggest contests in the Nation, where high school students get to exploit their creativity and their ability to tell stories. As a class we had a great time and we got the opportunity to interact with different people who are involved in this business. We also met a lot of students that share the same passion for filmmaking as we do. Overall we had such a great experience. We got to visit one of the busiest cities in the world, and I'm sure it inspired all of my peers as much as it inspired me to keep doing what I love doing. Having a guest speaker that came to us and talked about the business in the city and all of her experiences that she's had, really gave us a taste of how things work out there. She explained all of the jobs and the places she's been and how editing is a really demanding job in this industry. It has motivated me and my peers to continue working on the things that we love and are passionate about. Even if we don't carry on with this business, "never give up. No matter what you do or what your passion is, keep following your goals and dreams" (Velez).
This was our first time entering a film contest and it was one of the most nerve-racking and most exciting things I've done. Coming up with a screenplay, a shot list in one week was a real challenge. However, this showed me that I have to challenge myself to do greater and bolder things. Things that will not only make me proud of myself, but also things that will connect with audiences out there.
I had the pleasure to put together a trailer to promote our first annual School Dance Concert. Filming this, was the best part of the this project. I got the chance to get up close to what the dancers in my school do and how much passion and dedication they put into it. Flyer done by Cynthia Fischer
Art Teacher at Perth Amboy Highschool For this particular video, I had the opportunity to work along side with some of my peers to portray one of the biggest problems our society faces nowadays. With the fast pace and how rapid technology keeps on growing, we sometimes forget that technology can be our worst enemy. Specially behind the wheel. "The Impact" shows the terrible consequences that driving and texting at the same time, doesn't only affect the perpetrator but bystanders as well. In this project I had the chance to help out with some technical aspects as well as the voice over at the end of the video that reveals the shocking ending of this accident.
This particular video, I love because it shows how the earlier you give children the chance to express themselves through any kind of visual or performing art, allows them to have keep an open mind about their surroundings. This also allows them to express themselves in the best and most comfortable way possible. This project was done over the summer of 2013. I had the opportunity to be behind the camera and capture the different aspects and the impact that music had on this children. It was showcased during the summer and it definitely made a huge impact on the community. It inspired the nearby schools to creat more artistic programs that will exploit the talent of future generations yet to come.
A great example of how the collaboration between two different worlds can create a great and brand new concept. This project took about 4 months to produce. Along with the participation of Dance teacher, Ms. Marci Hersh, who choreographed the whole dance, this video was a total success. A huge amount of work. I definitely loved working on this particular project because it made me exploit some of my other talents and skills, like special makeup f/x and learned many other different ways on how to achieve a great angle and positioning of the camera. This video also give a face to our Visual and Performing Arts Academy which like I mentioned, is the best opportunity to show the world what we can do. Time was definitely a key factor in the making of this video.
Annual High school Film Challenge, gave us the opportunity to write, direct, and produce this video. It portrays the story of a girl who finds a mysterious watch that promises to achieve great powers. Only to find herself isolated in a lie that she in her own head created. The challenge-y part about making this video was the time that was given to produce this video. Within a week, school all around New Jersey were competing against each other using the same elements: Title of the video, "The Box", Prop that must of been use in the video, a watch and Main Character's or some kind of reference to the name of Sam Dixon. During the process, my team and I encountered several difficulties that helped us grow and be better the next time we do more projects of this kind. One of the difficulties we had was getting the right amount of light. In some of the scenes, light was a very important factor in order to create express the different moods that we wanted to create on the film. Although, I feel like we accomplished this goal and we even came up with different ideas and skills that helped us, and will continue to do so, for our next project.
